Set in an unidentified city in India in the 1970s, A Fine Balance concerns four characters from varied backgrounds who come together and develop a bond. It describes the sufferings of outcasts and innocents trying to survive in the face of death and despair. I opened the book and at the end of the first page I was hooked until I finished all 600 pages.
