Art is fair in love and war.

In one of Neil Labute's most riveting pieces, The Shape of Things examines the human condition and how far one would go for both love and art. The story follows the steadily intensifying relationship between Adam & Evelyn. As Evelyn strengthens her hold on Adam, his emotional and physical evolution discomforts his best friends Jenny and Philip, with unexpected and shocking consequences for all.

In this unique staging, directed by Anthony Gusevich, the play itself is represented as a piece in an art gallery, where actors never leave the space and the show is performed behind velvet ropes.

The bergenPAC Black Box Theater Series will feature events in our newly constructed Black Box Theater for artists, students, dancers, musicians, theater goers, performers, and much more. The series will have 4 plays, 2 musicals, singer-songwriter evenings, Broadway cabaret nights, open mic nights, and slam poetry nights. The venue is intimate and allows the performers to unleash their passion of the arts in a welcoming environment.

“We have a beautiful, small, intimate venue that will cater to the needs of all the artists in our community,” said Director of Education Alexander Diaz. “The Black Box Theater is the only Black Box Theater located in Northern New Jersey so close to NYC. This allows us to attract serious actors, and performers to use the venue as a platform for providing quality arts in our area.”

Some plays are new plays which will be work-shopped at bergenPAC, presented in the Black Box, and have producers and directors attend the performances with hopes of moving the production to a larger scale.

Cast includes

  • Scott Brieden as Adam
  • Megan Greener as Evelyn
  • Sean Kincaid as Phil
  • Darby Hannon as Jenny

There will be a Q & A after the Sunday performances.
