SONGWRITER, SATIRIST & IMPROV ARTIST TO APPEAR @ FOLK PROJECT SATURDAY NIGHT

Special Concert with Eric SchwartzSongwriter, Satirist and Improv Artist
Eric Schwartz

WHEN: Saturday, September 23, at 7:30 pm
WHERE: Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Rd, Morristown.
TICKETS
: $20.00
Tickets are available either online at Concerts.FolkProject.org or at the door on the evening of performance.
For further information, call 973-335-9489, or visit Concerts.FolkProject.org.

How would one best encapsulate the essence of Eric Schwartz?  Think Jon Stewart with a guitar.  He zeroes in on the social and political foibles of 21st Century America with the precision of a Robin Hood skewering the forces of greed, corruption, and foolishness with each unerring arrow.  His humor is wickedly biting and to the point.  On top of this, he is also a superb singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, not only on guitar, but on piano as well.  Well known as the bad boy of the Folk World, he is also highly regarded in the West Coast comedy club scene.  Schwartz is possibly the only artist in the history of the world to get raves from both Gloria Steinem and Hustler Magazine.  Eric’s songs go from the political to the profane, are sometimes both, and are always characterized by intelligence, brilliant wordplay and savage wit.

Please note that if this concert were a movie, it would be rated “R” for language and sexual content.  And, like the aforementioned Jon Stewart, Schwartz is prominently political and Left Wing.

The event is part of the Folk Project Special Concert Series that takes place a number of times a year at The Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, the same venue as its Minstrel Acoustic Concert Series.

The Folk Project is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation whose mission is to present high caliber folk music performances and instructional workshops for the public and members; to encourage development of musicianship and performance skills in the northern New Jersey area; and to provide interesting social and learning activities relating to traditional and participatory folk music and dance.

Funding for this concert has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.

NJPAC ANNOUNCES SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG ARTISTS SEEKING THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES

Summer Programs at NJPAC

Middle school and high school students in search of their inner artist don’t have to look any further than NJPAC when their classes adjourn. Creative minds are at work to make 2016’s Summer Programs at NJPAC an unforgettable experience for young people involved in the performing arts.

Many of the country’s most recognized performers in their fields are back to lead these popular, immersive sessions in acting, dance, jazz, hip-hop, musical theater, dance and comedy. Seasoned pros of Chicago’s famed Second City will return to coach students in improv comedy, while building teamwork skills in the process. Jazz piano great Geri Allen will again head a faculty of ace musicians for the All-Female Jazz Residency, this year at Rutgers University in Newark in partnership with its Institute of Jazz Studies.

Participants often describe their experiences in terms of having fun, while receiving a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study with the masters.

“While learning the ins and outs of their chosen pursuit, our teens use the arts to express their creativity and their most authentic voice,” says Alison Scott-Williams, Vice President of Arts Education at NJPAC. “Through this exploration, they make new friends, inspire others to share their art, and have a great time.”

Summer Programs at NJPAC includes:

The Advance division, for students ages 12-18, is an immersive five-week performing arts workshop. FAMILY DRAMA CONTINUES @ DREAMCATCHER REP IN SUMMIT

The Outgoing Tide
WHEN: April 21- May 8, 2016
WHERE:
The Oakes Center, 120 Morris Ave., Summit

Past, present and future come together for the Concannon family in The Outgoing Tide.

In a summer cottage on Chesapeake Bay, Gunner has hatched an unorthodox plan to secure his family's future but meets with resistance from his wife and son, who have plans of their own. As winter approaches, the three must quickly find common ground and come to an understanding before the tide goes out.

This drama hums with dark humor and powerful emotion. When the play ran Off-Broadway in 2012, The New York Times said, "...this drama brings sensitive observation and minor-key humor to painful situations that many of us will recognize from our own families...its poignant conclusion will have resonance for many in the audience."

IMPROV FOR TWEENS @ THE THEATER PROJECT

IMG_1785

Improv for Tweens

Improv is great for tweens and teens! It is lots of fun and helps kids to open up and gain confidence. I will engage the class in simple ensemble building theater games and various other improv exercises. Students will build up to learning and playing short-form improv games which will eventually be performed for an audience at our end of term Improv Showcase. Get ready to think fast and laugh a lot!

6th - 9th grades (5th graders with approval)
Offered through The Theater Project Classroom

WHEN: Fridays,  4:00 to 5:00; Feb. 19, 26; March 4, 11, 18; April 1, 8, 22, 29; May 6, 13. SHOWCASE May 19 @ 7:00
WHERE: The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Rd., Maplewood
TUITION: 11 sessions plus a showcase $240

One can register at:  http://www.thetheaterproject.org/improv.html

“Nia came out of the show last night as high as a kite! She kept talking about how fun it was, how everybody worked so well together in her group, and how she can't wait for improv to start back up! Bravo Lulu! Thanks so much for your hard work!”  - Joyce Paton, mom of Nia

“I don't know what kind of magic spell you cast, but the fact that Henry got on stage and performed is a feat no other mortal has been able to conjure out of him. He had so much fun! He's hooked on improv.” - Nancy Fitzsimmons, mom of Henry

“I didn’t realize until my son Daniel took Lulu’s class what an important skill it is to be able to do improv. Being able to think on your feet and collaborate is helpful both on the stage and in life. When I realized that Daniel was drawn to being in front of an audience, I wanted to find some way to hone his skills and channel his ability to perform. Lulu’s class was great, and I highly recommend it. Daniel loved playing the games which taught him how to think on his feet. Lulu really gets the silliness of children and is able to harness their energy into a fun class where they learn valuable skills that will benefit them during every stage in life.” - Jodi Fox, mom of Daniel
