Upcoming Butterfly Festival at The Watershed Institute - Aug. 4

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kate Gorrie Butterfly house, Watershed Center, 31 Titus Mill Road, Pennington
TICKETS: $10 per person or $25 per carload

The Butterfly Festival is the Watershed’s largest annual educational event. The day focuses on the importance of maintaining the delicate balance between humans and the natural world. This family-oriented day has grown to be a major regional event, attracting more than 3,000 visitors.

The Butterfly Festival welcomes visitors every summer to tour the Kate Gorrie Butterfly house, explore the insect zoo and meet butterfly stilt walkers. The festival also features the Kwel’ Hoy totem pole and exhibit, on display by the Natural History Museum and the House of Tears Carvers. The traveling display draws a line against fossil fuel development at the Watershed with the help of indigenous nations, local activists, and citizen scientists.

Explore the creatures and critters, attend an author’s book reading or participate in a local water tasting contest inside The Watershed Center.

We’ll feature rides on an electric train, the Watershed Express, which will travel to the back field for lawn games and solar-powered music. There will also be a butterfly and bug parade, hay rides, nature walks, crafts, playing with giant bubble and balls, and hula hooping with glitterhoops.

There will be food trucks, vendors with environmental and outdoor equipment, and live music with the Ballycastle Band and Cosmic Jerry.
