PAPER MILL PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES 2016-2017 CHILDREN’S SHOW LINE-UP

In the past, I have urged you to take your little children to the theater! The Paper Mill Playhouse’s 45-minute performances are wonderful ways to introduce youner kids to the theater. Kids on the autism spectrum can enjoy the theater as well! —Ruth Ross

Beloved stories and characters come to life on the big stage

Paper Mill Playhouse, recipient of the 2016 Regional Theatre Tony Award, is proud to announce its 2016-2017 children’s show programming. Paper Mill’s Children’s Shows are charming, delightful and educational performances filled with audience participation and adventure. 

“What better way to spend a weekend morning than introducing your child to the live theater experience with characters and stories they love?” said Mark S. Hoebee, Producing Artistic Director at Paper Mill Playhouse.

The 2016 – 2017 season of Children’s Shows is listed below. The season will include productions of SkippyJon Jones, Snow What (& the 7 Chihuahuas), Charlotte’s Web and Pete the Cat designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum or with other developmental disabilities. Autism-friendly performances are planned in cooperation with the Paper Mill Autism Advisory Team. The theater environment will be altered for these performances, providing a sensory-friendly, comfortable and judgment-free space that is welcoming for all families.  Additionally, Paper Mill Playhouse will host a free open house titled "Meet Your Seat" as an opportunity for children who are new to theater experiences to visit the theater space before the show.

This new musical is a twist on the classic fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the bravest Chihuahua of them all? Skippyjon Jones the Siamese cat who things he's a Mexican Chihuahua, of course! While his sisters listen to Snow White, Skippy heads off for the REAL adventure awaiting him in his closet!

FROSTY

The beloved holiday song “Frosty the Snowman” has inspired a brand new story of a young orphan named Billy who discovers magic in a stolen hat. When he places the hat on a snowman’s head, the snowman comes to life! Join Billy and Frosty as they embark on a New York City adventure filled with thrills and chills, and the discovery that the real magic of the holidays is love.


THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE

This enchanting musical is based on C.S. Lewis' adventure story about four children of war-torn England, who accidentally enter the land of Narnia by climbing through a magic wardrobe.


MISS NELSON IS MISSING

The students in Room 207 were the worst-behaved class in the whole school – even though they had the sweetest teacher of all, Miss Nelson. But when Miss Nelson unexpectedly does not come to school one day, the class gets the strictest substitute they have ever met: Miss Viola Swamp! A lighthearted musical that reminds us all to show appreciation to those that we value!


THE LIGHTNING THIEF

Adapted from the book by Rick Riordan, Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that’s the least of his troubles. JIM WEST’S DINOSAURS

Fossil, the dinosaur detective, mixes fun and facts in this colossal show inspired by everyone's favorite prehistoric creatures. Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Stravinsky and Prokofiev provide the rich musical score.


Major funding for autism-friendly programs is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support includes C.R. Bard Foundation, The Karma Foundation, MetLife Foundation, Nordstrom, PSEG Foundation, and Summit Area Public Foundation.
