The new play reading series is a chance for the audience to participate in the development of new works, both to hear the play read by professional actors and also to discuss the project with the playwright, director and actors afterward. Feedback from these evenings helps the playwrights to further refine their scripts and also gives them a first-hand experience of how the audience will respond to the finished work. These evenings provide a fun and lively way to interact with the creative process, and to receive a preview of plays that may be performed on Dreamcatcher's mainstage in the future. And better yet, they are free! WHEN: May 18, 2016 at 7:00pm WHERE: The Oakes Center, 120 Morris Ave., Summit We Will Not Be Silent by David Meyers Tells the true story of Sophie Scholl, a German college student who led the only major act of civil disobedience during the Second World War. The play is not about the Holocaust, but examines the role ordinary Germans played in the rise of Hitler, and also the moral strength and clarity that led a group of German students to give their lives for a righteous, but hopeless, cause. The reading will feature Gary Glor, Julian Gordon and Stephanie Windland and will be directed by Laura Ekstrand, Dreamcatcher's Artistic Director. WHEN: May 25, 2016 at 7:00pm String Around My Finger by Brenda Withers A quiet comedy about a young couple in the aftermath of a miscarriage. While Emma is still in the hospital, she and Kip try, with the help or interference of his sister, a physician's assistant and an insightful older patient, to piece together what their relationship has been and what it still might become. Performing in the reading will be Terri Sturtevant, Gary-Kayi Fletcher, Jessica O'Hara Baker, Janet Sales and Jason Szamreta. String Around My Finger will be directed by Laura Ekstrand.
