Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center is thrilled to announce its second season! Dragonfly, a Metuchen-based nonprofit community theatre, was founded in 2014 to provide low-priced performances and classes while giving local community members opportunities to learn and perform. In its inaugural 2014-15 season, Dragonfly was proud to present three full productions, a cabaret and many library workshops.

A Midsummer’s Night Dream

WHERE:
Reformed Church, 150 Lake Avenue, Metuchen

In this classic tale, four star-crossed lovers escape into the Athenian woods, where they create confusion and complications for woodland fairies and rustic actors. When the fairies begin to meddle in romance, it all leads to adventures of mistaken identities. Full of royalty, chaos, and overdramatic actors, Dragonfly’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream brings the magic of the world’s most renowned playwright to central New Jersey.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

Matt and Ben
written by Mindy Kaling (“The Office,” “The Mindy Project”) and Brenda Withers (“The Office,” “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”).
WHEN: Oct. 30 & 31 (see times above)
WHERE:
Reformed Church, 150 Lake Avenue, Metuchen

Matt and Ben focuses on Hollywood golden boys Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. When the screenplay for Good Will Hunting drops from the heavens, the not-yet-famous Matt and Ben realize they are being tested by some higher power. Two women portray the famous men in this wacky comedy, which had a sold-out, award-winning run at the 2002 New York International Fringe Festival.

Arms and the Man
by George Bernard Shaw

For Valentine’s Day 2016, Dragonfly hopes to offer a small musical, and in the spring of 2016, the company will present George Bernard Shaw’s comedy,  a humorous look at war and romance through the story of the idealistic Raina and a deserting soldier.

Talley’s Folly (on the road)
By Lanford Wilson

After the company’s acclaimed February production of Talley’s Folly, the show is being taken out on the road! Recent performances took place in Ocean Grove at the Jersey Shore Arts Center and at the Monmouth County Library HQ in Manalapan, NJ. Talley’s Folly is Lanford Wilson’s story of unlikely lovers Matt and Sally. Winner of the 1980 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play examines the true beauty that can be found in human relationships. Talley’s Folly is available for touring performances to libraries; arts and senior centers; and other venues, pending availability of the rights. Dragonfly is also offering touring programs to libraries and other New Jersey venues, which include programs on superheroes and graphic novels, a workshop on public speaking, and performances of one-act plays written by Chekhov. Dragonfly’s Chekhov one-acts, Love and Marriage, will be presented at the Suffern Free Library in Suffern, NY on Sep. 26 at 2:30 p.m. More information about our touring shows is available at our website, www.dragonflyartsnj.com.

Beginning in September of 2015, Dragonfly will again be offering acting classes for adults and teens, with the addition of an all-new kids-only acting course. These classes are available to performers of any experience level, and we welcome those with disabilities. Check the Dragonfly web site for more information about classes.
