This romantic comedy is the sequel to last year’s hit, SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR. It will be a memorable evening with two of the world’s favorite characters. George and Doris continue the saga of an extramarital affair conducted one weekend a year into the last quarter of the twentieth century. Maturing into their golden years, Doris and George share the inevitabilities of aging and the convolution of parenting and grand-parenting as they redefine love outside of their annual tryst and romance within it. Hilarity and tenderness are perfectly balanced against the changing backdrop of life in the United States.

This romantic comedy tells the story of accountant George Peters and housewife Doris who meet at a Northern California inn in February 1951. They have an affair, and agree to meet once a year, despite the fact both are married to others and have six children between them.

Over the course of the next 24 years, they develop an emotional intimacy deeper than what one would expect to find between two people meeting for a clandestine relationship just once a year. During the time they spend with each other, they discuss the births, deaths, and marital problems each is experiencing at home, while they adapt themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.

Starring Jill Mesonas and Armand Marino.

Rehearsals: begin mid-October. Rehearsal schedule will be based on performers' availability.

Seeking 4 Men - age 16 and over, portraying children ages 5-9. All actors who can portray this range will be considered. All cast members must be able to harmonize for ensemble numbers.

Please prepare 32 bars of a song that best shows your voice. Please bring sheet music, as an accompanist will be provided. There will also be readings from the script.

Cast Breakdown:

  • Charlie Brown: male baritone/tenor; a sometimes optimistic, sometimes self-deprecatory lovable loser who will one day get the little red haired girl to notice him, get his kite to fly, and pitch one winning baseball game. His confidence comes from optimism. His insecurity comes from not being able to find his niche in life. Strong singing and acting skills.
  • Linus Van Pelt: male baritone/tenor; the thumb-sucking, blanket-dependent younger brother to Lucy. The irony with Linus is that he appears at once to be a 5 year old but is really the most educated character in the bunch. His confidence comes from his intellectualism. His insecurity comes from a sense of the world as a political entity. Strong singing, acting, and soft shoe or tap experience would be great but not required.
  • Snoopy: male tenor/baritone; a clownish, vaudevillian scene stealer who can really "sell it." Snoopy is at once a dog with many animal behaviors and some barking, whimpering and growling, but can dance circles around everyone else. Some barking, whimpering and growling required. His confidence comes from joy. His insecurity comes from a fear of being forgotten. Strong comedic timing and musical theatre style dance required.
  • Schroeder: male high baritone/tenor; Lucy's love interest; spends most of his time practicing the piano. His love is his piano and Beethoven. That said, he comes out and shines in his one number, "Beethoven Day," which can be a show stopper. His confidence comes from his passion. His insecurity comes from his self-perceived (and quite possibly other-perceived) nerdiness. Strong acting and singing skills. Schroeder does not actually play the piano during the show.

Based on the comic strip "Peanuts" by Charles M. Schulz. Charles Schulz's beloved characters come to life in this wonderfully entertaining musical by Clark Gesner. Everyone's favorite 'blockhead' - Charlie Brown - is joined by his sister Sally, blanket-hugging Linus, know-it-all Lucy, Beethoven devotee Schroeder, and of course his best friend Snoopy, for adventures and life lessons that include flying a kite, writing a book report, playing baseball, and combating the Red Baron.

ROCK & ROLL MUSICAL CONTINUES @ EDISON VALLEY PLAYHOUSE

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson!

With a raucous blend of outrageous comedy, anarchic theatricality and an infectious rock score, this wildly entertaining musical tells how A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States—who cares if he didn't have permission?

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson creators Michael Friedman (Love's Labour's Lost, The Fortress of Solitude) and Alex Timbers (Love's Labour's Lost, Peter and the Starcatcher) cook up an alternate universe (and draw parallels to today's political/populist landscape) with their musical about the seventh U.S. president.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson follows America's seventh president from his early days as a child on the wild frontier to his controversial reign in the White House. With the country divided into rich and poor (and with continued skirmishes with the Native Americans upsetting pieces of the new world), Jackson begins his steady climb from military strategist to populist rabble-rouser to President of the United States. Along the way, he meets his wife, Rachel, takes on the Founding Fathers—and rocks like no political figure has ever rocked before!

Sexual Perversity in Chicago by David Mamet examines the sex lives of two men and two women. The play is filled with regional jargon that reflects the working-class language of Chicago. The characters' relationships become hindered by the caustic nature of their words, as much of the dialogue includes insults and arguments. The play presents "intimate relationships [as] minefields of buried fears and misunderstandings. (Above left: Matthew Rae, who plays Danny (left) and Brian Remo who plays Bernard(right) check check out the women of Chicago.)

The Obie award-winning Sexual Perversity in Chicago "takes funny and painful digs at the fantasies and distances of the contemporary sexual game," according to The New York Times. Two male office workers, Danny and Bernie, are out to meet the hottest women Chicago has to offer. Danny meets Deborah in a library and soon they are lovers as well as roommates. The other couple, Bernie and Joan, seem to have the politics of sex down pat but are as confused as their more naive counterparts. After much comic drama, the two men end as they started, talking a good game in the local bar.

The actors in the show are having a fun journey with the story lines and the rhythm of the dialogue. Brian Remo (of North Plainfield) who plays Bernard says, "Tackling Mamet has been such a rush... But to have the experience infused with Mike Burdick's passion for the work, the process and the craft has been fulfilling beyond compare. Couple that with the humbling honor of working alongside such immense talent has made this experience immensely gratifying.”

Matt Rae (of Pompton Plains) who plays Danny states, “Working in this show has been an emotional learning experience from the beginning; both as an actor and as a person and I could not be more grateful for it and for the chance to work side by side this phenomenal cast and director.”

Both Kristina Hernandez (of Westfield) who plays Joan, and Morgan Vasquez (of Parsippany) who plays Deborah are both enjoying this experience as well. Hernandez remarks, “Collaborating with this talented cast and gifted director has been a rewarding experience. Bringing this show to life has been a blast!” Vasquez, who plays Deborah, comments, “ It’s already been amazing to work with this material, but to have a director and cast that is so devoted makes the whole process better, and in turn, makes the show better. Mamet gives you a chance to really be an actor, to make the most of who you are and the text he’s giving you.”

Although Sexual Perversity deals with adult issues and contains adult language, director Mike Burdick (of Linden) explains, “David Mamet is so more than f-bombs and realistic dialogue. Its defiance … its performance on the edge … it is true rock-and-roll theatre. But without the right performers, it’s just noise. In this Fearless production marking the 40th Anniversary of Sexual Perversity, I find myself completely humbled by this elite cast, who are not only as talented as the material they are exploring, but who choose to attack it with an unrelenting hunger for their craft. If you think you’ve seen Mamet, think again!”

The audience will also be treated to a curtain warmer called Gravediggers, which stars Shiva Kiani of Newark and Jill Mesonas of North Edison.
