James Prosek: At Work
Opens
February 28, 2025
James
Prosek explores our natural world with unparalleled energy and
insight as a visual artist and writer. His first three decades as a
professional have given us a body of work that asks questions about the
nature of illusion, the futility of naming creatures systematically,
and the relationship of writing and art to the origins of markmaking. James
Prosek: At Work examines these themes as seen in the more than
10 major projects that have defined the first 30 years of his
career.

Sally Michel, Brilliant Legacy
On view
through May 4, 2025
Sally
Michel, Brilliant Legacy will bring a fresh and innovative look at the work of
Sally Michel (1902-2003), a talented and previously under-recognized
female painter connected to the New York-centered Abstract
Expressionist movement. The exhibition, which includes over 40
paintings created between the 1930s and the 1990s, showcases her
distinctive use of color, abstraction, and form.
This
exhibition was organized by the Mennello Museum of American Art. Sally
Michel: Abstracting Tonalism was curated by Katherine Page,
Curator, Art and Education, Mennello Museum of American Art.
Generous
funding for this exhibition and the publication is provided by The
Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation. Additional funding for the
Morris Museum presentation courtesy of The Milton and Sally Avery Arts

Michael Malpass,
Sculptor of Wit (1946-1991)
On view through February 23, 2025
The drawings, collages, and metal sculptures of Michael
Malpass, in some ways, embody a shift in 1970s
America. From his black-smithed abstract figures, we see him pivot from
a formalist aesthetic championed by his first gallerist, Betty Parsons,
to a frontier of creativity that celebrates the found object. Meticulously,
Malpass welded and fused together the industrial overstock of the
collapsed manufacturing base in metro NYC.
