A Message From the
Director: May 1, 2024
Dear West Orange,
April is done and spring has sprung. Seemingly,
overnight the views from the library windows are full of color in the
hills. Seeing 10 Rooney in spring was one of the things that
convinced me this was the right location for the library. The
first phase of 10 Rooney, creating the new library is essentially
complete. Work on the library’s elevator will be occurring over
the next few weeks. In the meantime there is an elevator across
the hall from the library’s elevator lobbies that will give you access
between floors if you need an elevator. In May we should see the
front entrance to the library changed to the planned all glass
storefront style entrance. Thank you in advance for forgiving our
mess.
Please join us June 2nd at 1PM for the
Grand Opening of the new West Orange Public Library. There
will be refreshments, music, and good company. We will unveil the
plaque memorializing this new phase in the storied history of the West
Orange Public Library.
On display at the grand opening, will be the proposal
for phase 2 of 10 Rooney redevelopment. This township initiative will
further enhance the beauty of the location with landscaping, a rain
garden, and enhanced accessibility, EV charging stations, a pickle ball
court and much more. We’re excited to see this plan unfold
and we think you will too.
Moving your library has been an adventure we have all
been through together. I hope you agree that it has been worth
it. Making the library the best it can be is a collective
effort. It takes hard work and love, but it also takes money to purchase
the equipment and enhancements, like an activity wall for children,
technology for a maker space, computer lab software and equipment, or
even seemingly small things like plants in all the windows, and many
others that will make the library the destination that you, the
community deserves. We know money can be tight, but if you share
our vision of the library as a welcoming, warm, life changing
environment for people of all ages, backgrounds and incomes essential
to building and maintaining a great community like West Orange we
welcome your help. Please help us continue and grow the
dream of this, your public library and donate generously.
Sincerely,
Dave Cubie, Director.
