In this seminar, we will be discussing and laying out our backyard farms. We will go over a number of topics such as setting, light requirements, critters, etc. We will also supply some seeds! Register here.

Learn the how’s and why’s of pruning, the science behind it, and what tools to use from Bruce Crawford. Practice your new skills on the trees and shrubs in the gardens. Dress for the weather and bring your garden gloves and pruners. Register here.

Meet the newest arrivals to the farm! Help the farmers socialize the baby lambs by playing with them one on one. Everyone will have a chance to pet and hold a lamb.

Hidden WildernessHidden Wilderness

Nature loving families can join our staff to explore the wonders of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Travel the trails, look in the streams, and find what's exciting and alive in the wilderness areas of the Arboretum. Wear waterproof shoes and dress for the outdoors. Sign up here.

Bear Puddle Jumpers: Bears

March 25

The black bears are waking up from their winter's naps…are you ready? Read a story to find out what bears do when they first wake up, learn how to be safe around bears, and look on the trails to spot signs that they've been there. Click here to enroll.

Look What's Coming:

merit badgeMerit Badge Workshop: Wilderness Survival

April 4

Take advantage of a day off from school to complete most of this merit badge. Learn first aid for survival situations, discover 3 ways to both start a fire and purify water, and build a survival shelter. Some prerequisites must be completed; more information is available at time of registration. Bring water and nut- free snack & lunch. Register here.

For Scouts ages 11 & up; cost: $48 per scout. Preregistration is required.

Bouquet Bootcamp, July 1-3

Tweens and Teens will take flowers from the garden and arrange them into i show-stopping bouquets every day. 

Arboretum Adventures, July 15 –19 and July 29-August 2

 Kids who love the outdoors will travel the trails, look in the streams, venture out, and explore a different part of the arboretum each day. Be prepared to be surprised.

Arboretum Artists, July 22-26

Kids will explore the gardens and get their artistic juices flowing and, using different kinds of media, create new pieces of art each day.  

Tiny World, July 8-12 and August 12 – 16

Dive into the tiny world of bugs, birds, and butterflies in this week-long adventure at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

Fairy Friends, August 5-9 and August 19 – 23

It’s the magical world of garden fairies.

Branching Out STEM, July 8-12 and July 29- August 2

How does it grow? What does it need? When is harvest? Kids use STEM skills to explore their gardens and get their hand in the soil in the process.

Branching Out Create, July 15-19 and August 5- 9

Kids use what they find in their gardens to make garden crafts and masterpieces. Gardens spark creativity!

Branching Out: Eat, July 22-26 and August 12- 16

It’s garden to table this week. Harvest, prepare, cook and then eat. There’s nothing like it.
