American Repertory Ballet returns to Kaye Playhouse in New York City with Elevate, an innovative program of cutting-edge ballet and contemporary works.

The program includes: Intrare Forma by Philadelphia-based choreographer Meredith Rainey, featuring music commissioned by up-and-coming composer Miranda Scripp; Sight Line by choreographer Amy Seiwert featuring the haunting melodies of Romania’s beloved Maria Tânase, and the anticipated return of Ethan Stiefel’s rousing Wood Work, set to modern renditions of Nordic folk tunes by the Danish String Quartet.

OF SWANS AND VARIANTS

Thursday, April 4, at 7:00 PM

McCarter Theatre Center

ARB takes center stage in Princeton, NJ with a one-night-only evening of classic and contemporary dance.

This exciting program features an excerpt from a crown jewel of the ballet repertoire, Swan Lake Act II, followed by a recently choreographed contemporary piece, VARIANTS, from ARB Artistic Director Ethan Stiefel.

Swan Lake Act II takes audiences into the bewitching world of Odette, the swan princess, as she reveals her true form to Prince Siegfried. From the famous “Dance of the Cygnets” to the renowned romantic pas de deux, this fairytale scene will leave audiences spellbound.

Ethan Stiefel’s VARIANTS is a rocking, joyous romp set to Brahms’ “Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24.” Both the music and choreography consist of a set of twenty-five variations and a concluding fugue. VARIANTS is made possible by the generous support of The Ted & Mary Jo Shen Charitable Gift Fund.
