Dear
Friend of American Theater Group:
“A
Remarkable New Musical”
—David
Patrick Stearns, USA Today
“It's rare, but sometimes in musical theater, everything comes
together — story, music,
performances — to produce moments that can't be duplicated in any
other medium.”
— Michael Kuchwara, Associated
Press
“The
book by Alfred Uhry, the gifted playwright and expert on Atlanta Jewish
life, is consistently apt and gripping. It gamely tackles a complex and
sprawling subject, neither oversimplifying nor forfeiting cohesiveness.
It enlightens without preachment and lets the dramatic or ironic prose
merge seamlessly with the musical numbers.”
— John Simon, New
York Magazine
Those
were some of the critical raves Parade received when it
opened on Broadway in 1998. ATG is proud to present
this Tony Award-winning musical by acclaimed playwright Alfred
Uhry (Driving Miss
Daisy) with a rousing and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown
(Bridges of
Madison County). It tells the heart-wrenching, true story
of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jewish man who was wrongfully
convicted of the murder of a 13-year-old employee. Amid religious
intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, the stirring
musical explores the endurance of love and hope against all odds. Parade is a
moving examination of the darkest corners of America's history and the
story is, regrettably, painfully relevant in today’s political
atmosphere. ATG will present the acclaimed Donmar Warehouse
version, the first time this version has been done on the East Coast
and will be directed by Broadway's Hunter Foster. I urge you to
get your seats now for best selection.
