Spend the morning with the passionate people who make
the Montclair Art Museum and Montclair itself phenomenal. As part
of the Museum’s Fridays at MAM programming, Casual Conversations
invites community members to sit down and chat with leading public
figures.
On February 17, look for Ira Wagner, Executive Director
of the Montclair Art Museum, at the Café from 11 a.m.–12 p.m.

the 16th Annual AACC Film Forum

Enjoy a special
screening of The
August Wilson Center - Building on a Legacy (30 min), a
film that documents the development of The August Wilson Center for
African American Culture in Pittsburgh, PA. Following the
screening, take part in a discussion panel with principal film
producers and enjoy a live performance from Spektrums Africans, an
African dance and drum company.

Thursdays Are Back

Free First
Thursdays return with a night celebrating the culture of the
African diaspora. The night will include art activities, a
guided tour of MAM's newest exibition, and a major performance by
the African dance group Kofago.
Kofago Dance Ensemble creates innovative works that draw from traditional
dances from West Africa, Caribbean dance forms, as well as modern
pieces based on West African and Caribbean principles of Movement
and space.

Join us each Friday for special programming
including Sketching in the Galleries and Family Scavenger
Hunts. Bring your laptop or other project materials to
the Museum’s Media Lab and enjoy our free wifi. While
there, take a break from work and visit the galleries, or
grab a quick snack or cup of coffee from our Cornerstone
Café as you fuel up for the end of the work week.
Join us for Casual Conversations in
the Cornerstone Café and spend the morning chatting
with some of Montclair's leading public figures. On

Spotlight
on the Collection
|
|

MAM’s bimonthly series, Spotlight on the
Collection, highlights artworks from the permanent
collection and original scholarship by MAM staff. This
doll, made by a Diné (Navajo) artist in 1941, is wearing
customary Navajo attire that reflects cross-cultural
histories of dress. During the imprisonment of Navajo
people by the U.S. government in the 1860s, assimilative
policies nearly eliminated Navajo use of handwoven textiles
as garments. Diné women began adapting Euro-American
wrapper dress styles with full skirts into a new look that
expressed Navajo values and artistry
