NJ REP: Celebrating 25 Years of Award-Winning Theater

25 Years of Award-Winning Theater

Our 2022-2023 Season of New Plays

Eden Prairie: 1971

A world premiere by Mat Smart. As war churns in Vietnam, night falls over the tranquil hills of a small Midwestern town, and a young woman hears a tap at her window. On the same night Apollo 15 makes its lunar landing, a young draft-dodger steals home to Eden Prairie, after a 300-mile trek from Canada to deliver an important message to his childhood friend.

Popcorn Falls

A new comedy by James Hindman (What Doesn't Kill You, Pin-Up Girls). The sleepy town of Popcorn Falls is forced into bankruptcy when a neighboring town threatens to turn them into a sewage treatment plant. Their only hope - open a theater! Two actors play over 20 roles in this fast-paced farce of love and desperation, proving once and for all that art can save the world.

The Rosenberg/
Strange Fruit Project

Award-winning playwright John Jiler tells us the remarkable story of the youngest child of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Orphaned at six following his parents' execution for espionage, the boy was adopted by the man who wrote the song 'Strange Fruit' — seared into our consciousness by Billie Holiday. Playing a gallery of rogues, heroes and saints, Jiler takes us on a journey from then 'til now.

Our Shrinking, Shrinking World

A world premiere comedy by Richard Dresser. Lyman Hidalgo-Nyquist is a psychotherapist with a climate-induced apocalyptic complex, a loose grasp of therapeutic technique, and a looser grasp of professional ethics. When his long-suffering clients decide to see a new, young therapist who's just moved to town, Lyman's professional jealousy spikes—along with his fear of losing income. May 4 - May 28.

A Tailor Near Me

A world premiere comedy by Michael Tucker (The M Spot, Fern Hill). A man goes to a tailor to have his suit pants let out because he's gained some weight since he last wore them. The tailor convinces him that what he really needs is a new suit, which leads to a negotiation, which leads to the making of a bespoke suit, which leads to alterations in both of their lives.
