| Murrow tells the story of a great
American life — Edward R. Murrow's career towers over
the history of broadcast journalism in the U.S. He was instrumental in
the birth of both radio and television news reporting. He warned, early
on, about the corrosive influences of both advertising and
entertainment on the news. His decision to take on Joe McCarthy at the
height of the senator’s powers is considered by many to be broadcast
journalism’s finest hour. Joseph Vitale, a finalist for the 2020 Woodward-Newman
drama prize and a semi-finalist for the 2012 Eugene O’Neill
Theater/National Playwrights Conference, is the author of a number of
plays, including Murrow (called “a dramatic
masterpiece” by the Huffington Post), which premiered at
The Theater Project and was performed Off-Off Broadway in May 2016 at
The Phoenix Theatre Ensemble. His newest play, Sunset Park (directed
by Mark Spina), will open at the Teatro Latea on October 11 as part of
the New York Theater Festival. His award-winning one-acts have
been performed around the country. He is a member of the Dramatists
Guild of America and the Theater Project Playwrights Workshop. He
received a 2021 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the
Arts for playwriting. Website: www.josephvitale.net   MORE PLAY AND AUTHOR INFO ON OUR WEB SITE:  New Play Readings - The Theater Project |
