ANTISEMITISM: PERSPECTIVES OF
MAJOR WRITERS AND THEORISTS

For USC Shoah
Foundation's inaugural Scholar Lab, six scholars have been
asked to address the question, “Why the Jews?” In this
online presentation and discussion, Dr. Jonathan Judaken of Rhodes
College examines how major theorists of antisemitism understand its
underlying causes and Dr. Jeffrey Veidlinger of the University of
Michigan explores what prominent thinkers in the Western tradition
have written about Jews.

Jonathan
Judaken, PhD
Dr. Judaken is the Spence
L. Wilson Chair in Humanities and Professor of History at Rhodes
College. His research focuses on representations of Jews and
Judaism, race and racism, existentialism, and post-Holocaust French
Jewish thought.

Jeffrey
Veidlinger, PhD
Dr. Veidlinger is Joseph
Brodsky Collegiate Professor of History and Judaic Studies at the
University of Michigan. He is Chair of the Academic Advisory
Council of the Center for Jewish History, a member of the Executive
Committee of the American Academy for Jewish Research, a former
Vice-President of the Association for Jewish Studies, and a member
of the Academic Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum.

Paul Lerner,
PhD
Professor Lerner is a
Historian of Modern Germany and Central Europe at the University of
Southern California with particular interest in the history of the
human sciences, Jewish history, gender, and the history and theory
of consumer culture.
