This Week: PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT: SCARECROWS October 1 – October 30 The scarecrows are back and this fun, family photo scavenger hunt challenges you to look for the clues to find all the scarecrows… find them all to win a prize! I want to go! Cost: $10 per family or group of 6 or less. Preregistration required.   VIRTUAL PLANT OF THE MONTH: HARDY ORANGE October 3 Stems that twist and curl with two-inch spines that will keep the October ghouls at bay, this month's plant is Hardy Orange. Spring flowers lead to October fruits that are so sour you wouldn't want to eat them. Learn about and grow your own "Flying Dragon." Check it out! Cost: $10 per child. Preregistration required.   HOMESCHOOL DAYS: SENSATIONAL SEEDS October 4 at Pyramid Mountain and October 11 at Great Swamp Seeds are on the move! Why? Because that's their job - get some place new to grow. Learn about all the ways that seeds disperse and try designing your own seed in our Seed Building Challenge! Click here for more information! Spotlight On: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AT THE KAY CENTER October 1 The MCPC Natural Resources Department will be hosting another MCPC Stewardship Volunteer Event, Saturday October 1st at the Elizabeth D. Kay Environmental Center. Volunteers will continue work at a restoration site by removing woody invasive shrubs and vines. Sign up here! FALL FARM FUN Saturdays and Sundays in October Fall festivities have begun at Fosterfields...Experience the Autumn season the old-fashioned way! Watch apples being pressed into cider, take a wagon ride, and pick your own pumpkins! Pumpkin guaranteed with pre-registration only. Come to the farm on Saturdays and Sundays in October to experience the season the old-fashioned way. Everything is included with your paid admission. Check it out! SCARECROWS IN THE GARDEN Saturday, October 1 - Monday, October 31 What better way to embrace autumn than to make a scarecrow for the garden with your friends or family? What will your scarecrow be: someone historical, a musician, maybe your favorite actor? Use your imagination to make your scarecrow at home, and then bring it to be enjoyed at the gardens by visitors!

Look What’s Coming: THE ANCIENT CRAFT OF WEAVING October 6 Create your very own unique textile piece to take home! Learn how the tapestry loom works. No experience necessary, all supplies are provided. Check it out! Cost: $25 per person. Preregistration is required.   LITTLE FARM FRIENDS: ALL FARMERS BIG AND TALL October 7 Autumn is the best time to explore the farm! Preregistration is required.   CAMPING SKILLS FOR ADULTS October 8 Why should kids have all the fun? Now there's a mini version of our popular Survivor Summer Camp just for adults! Spend a morning in the forest learning how to pick a campsite, set up a tent, build and light a campfire and practice good camping ethics. Learn more! Cost: $15 per person. Preregistration is required.   A DAY OFF WITH NATURE: PREDATOR AND PREY October 10 Enjoy a day of fun when school is out while learning about the adaptations and survival strategies of the hunters and the hunted. Play games that simulate what life is like for each type of animal and observe these wild relationships in action on the trails. Complete the day by making a craft, reading stories and gaining a new perspective on how wild animals get their food. Participants should bring a nut-free lunch and snack. Click here for more info!
