Woodland Wonders – Early June
Surround
yourself with the rich blooms of native mountain laurels and
rosebay rhododendrons that frame the Tennis Court Pavilion and
populate the Tea House Slope and Gardens. Some of these
magnificent shrubs date back to the 1960s and 70s. Mountain
laurels (Kalmia) and rosebay rhododendrons (Rhododendron maximum)
thrive in partial sun on a woodlands edge. They provide evergreen
structure throughout the year and elegant hues of white, pale
pink and rose pink in early June.

Spikes and Spires – June
Celebrate
flower form in June and throughout the gardening season. From
late spring into mid-summer, a variety of foxgloves flower
throughout the garden and are particularly prominent at the
Cascade where their architectural spires compete with the
splendor of this historic water feature. Later in June,
variegated yuccas (Adam’s needle) dazzle the D-pool fountain with
their statuesque, candelabra-like blooms that tower above the
rest of the border. Come explore the fanciful forms and colorful
blooms in one of the most electrifying months of the gardening
year.
