O.B. Hardison Poetry Series

Bloom: The Story of a Rose

an online poetry workshop

a live event on Zoom

Thursday, May 19, at 3:00pm (ET)

Combining the beauty of roses with poetry, the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series and the U.S. Botanic Garden continue BLOOM, an online poetry workshop that explores the natural world on Thursday, May 19, at 3pm.

The theme for the workshop is “The Story of a Rose” with Irish poet Jane Clarke. From the soil to the petal, Clarke and USBG Horticulturist Adam Pyle will explore the poetic beauty of roses. Participants will hear Clarke read garden-inspired poetry and learn from the horticulturalist’s presentation as writers create their own work. Attendees will take inspiration from the U.S. Botanic Garden’s rose garden and their own surroundings as well as the poet’s writing prompts. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will write and have the opportunity to share their own work.

The cost for the workshop is $75, with a discount for Folger and U.S. Botanic Garden members and Folger subscribers.

We hope you will join us and take this unique opportunity to work with a poet, a horticulturalist, soak in the beauty of roses, all the while learning more about the flower.

This program is a collaboration between the Folger Shakespeare Library and the U.S. Botanic Garden.
