MAY PROGRAMS AT THE WATERSHED


Preschool Nature Class: Mighty Trees

May 3, 2022, 10:30- 11:30

Join Watershed Educator Steph Silva as we learn all about the mighty trees in the forest. We'll appreciate all the amazing things trees provide for us and also wildlife. Classes generally include a lesson on the topic of the day, followed by a hike, art activity, and game.

Ages 3-5. In-person program preregistration and adult attendance required. Dress for the weather.

Preschool Nature Class: Are You My Mother?

Everyone needs their mom. Learn that all animals have a mom and that mothers have a special role. Join Watershed Educator Steph Silva as we have fun searching the reserve for animal mothers and their babies. Classes generally include a lesson on the topic of the day, followed by a hike, art activity, and game.

Nature’s soundscape is like the perfect song. Join Watershed Educator Steph Silva as we take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. We'll be learning about why animals make the sounds they make. Classes generally include a lesson on the topic of the day, followed by a hike, art activity, and game.

That's right, we're getting muddy. Join Watershed Educator Steph Silva on a soil exploration. Learn the parts of soil as well as name several animals and plants that depend on or help the soil. Classes generally include a lesson on the topic of the day, followed by a hike, art activity, and game.

Learn all about what life is like in, on and under old logs. Join Watershed Educator Steph Silva at the Watershed Reserve for an immersive nature preschool program. We'll be rolling logs and meeting new critters. Classes generally include a lesson on the topic of the day, followed by a hike, art activity, and game.

Homeschool Herpetology Series: Reptiles and Amphibians

Tuesdays 10-11:30 a.m. | May 3, May 10, May 17, May 24, May 31

Join Naturalist Vicky Allen and Kate Hode for a Homeschool series about herpetology. This class is part of an eight-part series that includes the following topics: amphibians 101, metamorphosis, reptiles 101, turtles & tortoises, lizards, snakes, crocodilians, and human interactions with these animals. Lessons will be primarily outside and include fieldwork (weather permitting). We may adjust the order of the lessons depending on weather since some lessons are better suited to classroom delivery. Students should come dressed for the weather and wear waterproof footwear. You may register for one program, a few, or all- it’s up to you.

Discount available for members. Parents are asked to remain onsite during the program

H20 Quest: Alien Invaders

May 14, 2022, Start times every 15 minutes from 10- Noon

All the scientists have left the lab. They left a mysterious message claiming aliens are taking over the Watershed Reserve. We need children to help track down the scientists and see if there are really aliens taking over! With map in hand you’ll make your way around the Watershed Reserve in search of clues to help solve a mystery. This program is part treasure hunt, part nature hike and plenty of imaginative fun. Meet climatologists, foresters, and a host of characters as you try to solve the puzzle in this adventure. Each family will remain together, practicing social distancing. 

Ages 4 and up, preregistration and adult attendance required. Dress for the weather of the day, with sturdy shoes for walking.
