MAPLE SUGARING FOR SEEDLINGS

March 3 and March 10

Since the little ones are too young for our regular maple sugaring demos, the GSOEC is offering a special session just for them.  Enjoy a maple sugaring story and a walk and talk with a naturalist all about making maple syrup from trees. Check it out!

Cost: $5 per child. Preregistration is required.

WINTER GOLDEN HOUR PHOTOGRAPHY

See Fosterfields like never before.  The beauty of a chilly winter morning is brought to life by the rays of the sun glistening on frosted trees, buildings, and fences.  We might even see some snow blanketing the farm.  Amateur and professional photographers are invited to this unique morning experience to photograph the beauty of the farm. Become a forensic scientist for wildlife as you examine real skulls and bones to determine what animal they came from.  Learn about the 4 types of mammal teeth as you crunch on carrots and apple slices and then determine what the animals eat by looking at the teeth in their skulls. TOT logoTOURNAMENT OF TREES

March 1 – April 4

It's Tournament Season! Pick up your bracket and let’s narrow it down to find the champion of all champions! Each week, you can vote for your favorite trees at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. There are 16 contenders this year -- Native or Non-Native. Big or Small. Evergreen or Deciduous. Visit them all and help pick the winner! Bracket paperwork and the voting box are located outside the front entrance of the Haggerty Education Center. Round one voting will be held from March 1st thru March 7th.

April 3

Join us on a beautiful 5K run/walk on the scenic trails of Central Park of Morris County. After completing your run, you’ll end the race with a one-of-a-kind finisher medal and post-race festivities. Family and friends are welcome. Runners and walkers of all abilities welcome. Whether you’re a beginner running their first race or you’re lacing up your running shoes for your 100th, this course is perfect for everyone. Sign Me Up!

ICE DREAMS 2022 AT MENNEN ARENA

You're officially invited to skate with US Figure Skating Champions in the ICE DREAMS show at Mennen Sports Arena! This show will host Nancy Kerrigan, Gracie Gold, Jeremy Abbott, Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy Leduc, Max Aaron, Polina Edmunds, and many more of their friends! This show is one of a kind.  From tots to Senior ladies—athletes from all over are coming to skate with the champions—in this one night only event! I want to go!

Geocaching is a great outdoor activity for families! Use a GPS unit and a map to locate hidden treasures, called “caches," along the trail that contain extra special St. Patrick’s-themed trinkets. All materials are provided. More Info Here.

The art of when, where and why to prune!  Often, the art of pruning is reduced to gas powered shears and the production of green meatballs!  Bruce Crawford, Manager of Horticulture, will discuss the various methods of pruning small trees and shrubs, the time of year certain plants should be pruned and how proper pruning can produce a healthier, more attractive and longer-lived plant.  Click here to learn more!
