LockDown
by Warren Nebe Directed by Jaci de Villiers
February 12, 12:00 PM E.T. ONLINE
"What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a
buffalo in the wintertime? It is the shadow which runs across
the grass and loses itself in the sunset?" —Crowfoot,
Isapo-Muxika a chief of the Siksika First Nation. 1830 - 1890
Lockdown is a
meditation on grief, trauma, our relationship to nature and how we
find healing. It is wordsmithed with layers of South African
theatricality and cyclical storytelling.
The origins of the
play emerged in the Unga Klara and Drama for Life Writing for
Children’s Theatre Workshop that included mentorship for writers.
Warren Nebe was mentored by Erik Uddenberg. The project was supported
by the Embassy of Sweden (South Africa) and Arts Research Africa,
University of the Witwatersrand.
