Cultural Awareness Research Study Being Conducted on Native American Culture

Cultural Awareness Research

Dear Community Member:

Researchers at Kean University in Communication Sciences & Disorders are conducting research about Native American culture. The purpose of this research is to explore cultural categories that inform communication in the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape tribe. The objective of this research is to generate an emic awareness of the community’s communication processes from a cultural perspective through the use of ethnographic interviewing.

If you choose to participate, you will take part in an ethnographic interview that will ask you general and specific questions about your cultural experiences and knowledge about the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape community and how that has informed your communication. We will sit together in a place of your choice for the interview, or it will be conducted virtually based on your preference. The session will be audio and/or video recorded with your permission and may take between 1 and 2 hours. Only the researchers and you will be present during this session.

To schedule a time to participate in this study contact Shivani Raina at rainas@kean.edu (908) 737-5809 or Iyad Ghanim at iyaghani@kean.edu or (908) 737-5823. If you have questions, feel free to contact the researchers. This study was approved by Kean University Institutional Review Board (IRB).
