I
hope you and yours are enjoying the summer!
It is
with a sense of great excitement and pride that I can announce the 2021–22 New Jersey Symphony
Orchestra concert season! We’ve been incredibly diligent in
our planning and are confident we can move forward with this delightful,
passionate and uplifting season of music. We absolutely wouldn’t be in
this position without YOUR support, patience and understanding. We cannot
overstate this, and we truly can’t wait for you to join us as we return
to live indoor performances.
This
new season is filled with your favorite timeless classics. Featuring the
works of legendary composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and
Ravel, there is absolutely something for everyone. We also explore
masterpieces from composers of today—Wynton Marsalis, Michael Abels,
Thomas Adès, Jesse Montgomery, Nokuthula Ngwenyama and our own Resident
Artistic Catalyst Daniel Bernard Roumain—bringing both freshness and
depth to our programs.

We
are extremely pleased to have an impressive roster of mega-talented guest
artists joining us this season. Some highlights include Nicholas McGegan
and Augustin Hadelich in a program featuring the works of Beethoven &
Saint-Georges, Karen Gomyo performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 and
Conrad Tao mastering Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. After a
pandemic-related postponement, Louis Lortie will finally delight us with
the Beethoven piano concerto cycle. Lastly, our new Artist-in-Residence,
world-acclaimed pianist Daniil Trifonov, will join us for not one, but
two separate programs this season! If you haven’t seen Daniil perform, I
highly recommend checking out his incredible performance in our EMERGE concert film, premiering
online via the NJSO’s website and YouTube channel on June 30.

This
season, we again shine the spotlight on our musicians. Bart Feller, Chris
Komer, Kathleen Nester, Jonathan Spitz, Brennan Sweet, Elzbieta Weyman,
Robert Wagner and Eric Wyrick are all featured soloists on programs in
2021–22. It’s absolutely thrilling to showcase them and their wondrous
talents. Our musicians have been so resilient through everything that’s
happened with the pandemic, and we look forward to seeing them back on
full display!

The
safety and well-being of our musicians, staff and patrons will be our top
priority as we return to our venues. We will continue to follow guidance
from the CDC and the State of New Jersey in order to create a safe
experience for everyone. Should you not feel comfortable attending an
in-person performance, that’s OK! Patron services will offer the most
flexibility possible in how to handle your tickets. We’re here to take
care of you.
It
has been a long road to get to this point and we can’t wait to reunite
with you, the NJSO family. Subscribe today and
be part of the Symphony’s epic return!
On
behalf of Xian, the musicians, trustees and staff, welcome to the
2021–22 concert season!
Best,
