Typical is the heartfelt offering of Vera Lynn with the title track. Many of
the greatest singing stars present their tributes (everyone has a mother, after
all): top tenors John McCormack (Little Mother Of Mine) and Beniamino Gigli
(Mamma), Bing Crosby (My Mother's Waltz) and, walking a million miles, Al
Jolson (My Mammy—of course).
In all, 20 widely ranging artists are represented,
from Brazilian bombshell Carmen Miranda (Mama yo quiero), R&B great Nellie
Lutcher (My Mother’s Eyes), through boy singers Bobby Breen (M-O-T-H-E-R) and
Joe Petersen (actually a girl!) (A Boy's Best Friend), to “The Street Singer”
