VIRTUAL CRAFTERNOON: TURKEY TIME Saturday & Sunday, November 21 - 22 Ages 6 - 10. Join a naturalist for an online nature craft program. This lesson includes most materials, along with fun facts all about turkeys, and crafting instructions. Participants must call ahead to pick up their materials at the Great Swamp OEC. Tuesday, December 1 – Owl Pellet Exploration

After an introduction to the amazing adaptations of New Jersey’s owls using feathers, taxidermy mounts, and other artifacts, pairs dissect owl pellets to reconstruct the skeletons of their prey. Participants must pick up their materials at the GSOEC before class. 

Cost: $12 per child. 

Tuesday, December 8 – Winter on the Homefront 

Join the March Sisters as they celebrate the winter holidays during the Civil War as we take a tour through Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. In this literary quest, use the themes from the book to learn how life would have been on the home front during the war between the states.

Cost: $10 per household.

Tuesday, December 15 – Water, Water, Everywhere!

Every living thing on earth needs water to survive – animals and plants. Explore the power of water, the way plants get water into their system, and how animals (like us) need plants to get the water we need, too.

Cost: $10 per person.

VIRTUAL LUNCH AND LEARN SERIES Thursdays, December 3, 10, & 17 –  12 noon – 12:45 pm Adults. Thursday, December 3 – Protecting Holiday Treasures Join museum staff as they share insights about caring for your holiday family heirlooms to help extend their life in years to come, and take a peek at some of the historic ornaments in the Park Commission’s collections. Thursday, December 10 – Fact or Fiction - Nature Edition Should I pick up a fallen baby bird? Do you get two worms when a worm is cut in half? Do black bears actually hibernate? Enjoy an interactive presentation while determining what really is fact or fiction regarding some of the most commonly seen and talked about New Jersey animals. Thursday, December 17 – Bringing Greens Indoors Learn how to tell the difference between pine, fir, and spruce trees. Discover which kinds of greens in your own yard are perfect for cutting and how to successfully bring them inside for seasonal décor.  Cost: $10 per person. Preregistration is required. Click here to learn more.
