Circulation assistant Cathy Pepin-Toussaint recommends Watchers by Dean Koontz. It's a wonderful story about a dog who escapes from a laboratory where he had been the subject of genetic experiments. This highly intelligent dog manages to bring together two lonely people who fall in love with him and with each other. The three of them race against time to evade another escapee of the lab, a horribly-gone-wrong experiment, a creature who is also highly intelligent but created for killing.
