The Chatham Community Players is both proud and honored to celebrate the 35th anniversary of “The Normal Heart” as a part of their successful play reading series, “Sundays at 7.”

In light of the current pandemic, and Dr. Fauci’s unique perspective, using the knowledge gained from dealing with the AIDS / HIV pandemic in the 80s, “The Normal Heart” seems both timely and relevant. We are also viewing this as a memorial to the recent passing of Larry Kramer, this play's playwright, author, film producer, public health advocate, and LGBT rights activist - (June 25, 1935 - May 27, 2020).

A searing drama about public and private indifference to the AIDS plague and one man's lonely fight to awaken the world to the crisis. Produced to acclaim in New York, London and Los Angeles, The Normal Heart follows Ned Weeks, a gay activist enraged at the indifference of public officials and the gay community. While trying to save the world from itself, he confronts the personal toll of AIDS when his lover dies of the disease.

Originally published in 1985 and celebrated in a passionate and eloquent 2011 Broadway revival, this play was produced for TV on HBO in 2014 by Ryan Murphy. Our performance will provide an opportunity for Actors and Audiences to participate in a live / interactive theatrical production, while also celebrating Gay Pride Month, when so many of the long standing Pride Events are being cancelled, curtailed, or significantly modified.
