An Important Message from GSP’s Artistic & Managing Directors & Board

Thank you for being part of our George Street family. Because of your support, the past year at George Street Playhouse has been marked both by tremendous success and by tremendous change—from concluding our time at our temporary home -- known as “the farm” -- to kicking off our 2019/20 season at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, to mounting three world-premieres and welcoming the largest opening night audience in our history.

Through every circumstance, you have stood with us. Bolstered by our patrons’ support, we have remained dedicated to bringing the highest caliber of new plays and musicals to New Jersey audiences—to positively shape and be shaped by the diverse character of our community.

Theater has the power to heal and now more than ever, we turn to our community for its support.

Last week, The Laurents/Hatcher Foundation very generously reached out to George Street Playhouse and other theaters across the country to make special, immediate gifts of $25,000 to help support emergency expenses during this time.

Two friends of George Street Playhouse have added to that gift with a match challenge.

Please consider joining them now by making a tax-deductible contribution by April 17, and your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000!

Arthur Laurents was a longtime friend of George Street Playhouse, and one of our theaters in the NBPAC now bears his name. At the moment, that stage is temporarily dark, but your support will allow us to return stronger than ever as we all look ahead to the hope and possibility of the future.

These times will be difficult for organizations like George Street Playhouse, which rely on ticket sales and donations to continue doing the work we do. What is certain, however, is that we have been reenergized in our mission of enriching people’s lives by producing world-class theater.

There are many challenges, and your ongoing support is deeply appreciated.

Your gift will allow us to:

  • Pay our staff for as long as possible
  • Meet obligations to artists whose work has been canceled
  • Plan exciting new productions for when we welcome you back to our home
  • Explore new ways to bring the theater experience into YOUR home through digital content and social media
  • Enrich and expand our world-class educational programs in the rehearsal room, in classrooms across the state, and through new virtual mediums

Even in the darkest times of the past, society looks to its artists, especially those who create theater, to gather us together and heal, to replenish our collective spirit.

Please consider making your gift today by clicking here.

Your gift will be matched, dollar for dollar, when you give by April 17.

George Street Playhouse is a non-profit professional theater, and as such your gift is tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by federal law.

Until we see you again, thank you.
