A Place in the World is about the landscape, which is one of Zaldivar's recurrent themes in recent years. His art is characterized by a uniquely inquisitive look at the world that surrounds him, as well as a drive to recreate and show its wide range of situations. Acrylic, watercolor, drawing, collage, art print and photography are the mediums Zaldivar embraces. His works consist of a conscious use of complementary colors to create harmony and balance. The vibrancy of the color mix illuminates the canvases.

Despite its familiarity as a subject, landscape painting to him represents a metaphor of life itself. "In a symbolic sense, we are like a landscape; a common and simple scene that in turn holds great significance," states Zaldivar. "Every time I paint a landscape, I delve into the idea of finding purpose in the cyclic, repetitive, routine and banal.  Does it make sense to continue revisiting the familiar landscape? I say yes."

Enrique Zaldivar is a Cuban painter and draftsman who currently lives in New Jersey. He graduated from the Professional Academy of Fine Arts El Alba in Holguin, Cuba and has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the world. His works appear in private collections, institutions and corporations throughout the U.S., and in Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Peru, Italy, France and Spain.

Zaldivar has also published several books;  Infinite Line and Pen and Ink Sketch Collection, are two of his most recent. They are visual delights, with influences of comic and illustration art with a great mastery of the line and the principles of graphic art.

This is the fourth in a series of Latino artist exhibitions this year at the West Orange Arts Center.
