NBJP Jazz Weekly January 8-11, 2019

Part of NBJP's mission is to showcase the next generation of jazz musicians ... the future "greats!" This is a chance to see them NOW! NBJP Student Advisor, Saxophonist Grady Barber leads the band and session and our Session Special Guest Artist* is drummer, Vince Ector.   

Sharp has worked with many Jazz luminaries &forefathers, including Yusef Lateef, Benny Golson, Red Holloway, Peewee Ellis, Hamiet Bluiett, Slide Hampton, Curtis Fuller, Benny Powell, Steve Turre,  Fred Wesley, Frank Lacy, Bucky Pizzarelli, Diane Schuur, Kevin Mahogany, Nnenna Freelon, James Spaulding, Louis Hayes, Winard Harper, Candido, Nicholas Payton, Eddie Henderson,Randy Brecker and many more. He also serves as music director, pianist, and arranger for The Celebration of Lionel Hampton Big Band and The New York City Ska Orchestra.  In addition to playing the piano he is also a prolific composer and arranger.

Having graduated from University of New Orleans (BM) and Aaron Copland School of Music (MM) Drye has impressive academic credentials. Yet, it's his on-the-job training that has most significantly shaped his playing and career. Drye has worked across musical genres with a wide range of artists including Ellis Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Wessell Anderson, Brian Blade, Henry Butler, Daniel Lanois, Houston Person, Tim Warfield, Mark Gross, Lafayette Harris, Paul Simon, Mike Longo and Mark Whitfield among many others.

Alex Collins is a composer/ orchestrator/pianist and recording artist born and raised in Teaneck, NJ. Alex earned a BA from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and his MA at the Manhattan School of Music. Alex can be seen as a leader and sideman throughout the tri-state.
