Fire Up a Young Mind with a Winter Class @ HAM

WHERE: Hunterdon Art Museum, 7 Lower Center St., Clinton

A winter class at the Hunterdon Art Museum is the perfect way for your kids to get creative and learn something new in a friendly, nurturing environment. Sign up for an after-school class and shake off those winter blues!

We have a variety of new offerings, plus some popular returning favorites starting in January. All programs are taught by professional artists, educators or storytellers. 

Our early registration special ends soon! Make sure to sign up by Jan. 2 and save $10 on most of our classes and workshops!

Here are just a few upcoming classes your kids will love:

imageDrawing & Painting 101 (starts Monday, Jan. 7, 4:30 p.m.): Whether your child has experience drawing and painting or is just starting out, here’s the perfect class to explore traditional wet and dry materials including pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolor and acrylic paints. Learn all kinds of techniques with color, shading, composition and perspective while working with still lifes and photos. For ages 10 to 15. Join Us!

Art + Science = FUN (starts Wednesday, Jan. 16, 4:30 p.m.): Explore the intersection of art and science!  Kids will stretch their minds -- and their imaginations -- creating cool projects that mix art, design, biology, chemistry and engineering. From growing crystals and exploring the environment to learning about fish biology and understanding concrete, the possibilities are endless! Taught by Wendy Hallstrom. For ages 8 to 12. Join Us!

imageDraw, Paint & Sculpt (starts Wednesday, Jan. 16, 4:15 p.m.): The title says it all!  Join Miss Nan and make loads of cool art with a variety of materials such as pastels, clay, paint and plaster. Projects rotate for new and returning students. For ages 7 to 9. Join Us!

Comics, Manga, Animé (starts Friday, Jan. 18, 5 p.m.): POW! WHAM! BAP! This action-packed comics class covers everything from Daredevil to Dragon Ball Z.

Learn how to draw classic comics and Japanese Manga and Animé. Games, trivia and much more will make you feel like a superhero! Taught by Glenn Whitmore. For ages 7 to 15. Join Us!


Art with Heart Starts January 15

We have three full scholarships available to our Art with Heart class starting Tuesday, Jan. 15, on a first-come, first-served basis.

HAM's Art with Heart is an open studio art class designed for kids, pre-teens and teens with special needs, physical limitations, developmental disabilities and/or any neurodiversity.

Students, ages 5 to 16, are encouraged to express their own vision in this fun, supportive environment. In each class, students will be presented with a choice of art materials to discover what they like best.  Art-making topics are tailored to new and returning students, and include drawing, painting, sculpting, mixed media and fiber arts. 

Parents are welcome to participate, observe, or drop off.

Looking for something fun to do over the holidays? Then stop in at HAM and see Lace, not Lace: Contemporary Fiber Art from Lacemaking Techniques, Walter Chandoha: A Lifetime of Photography and our 2018 Members Exhibition before they're gone forever after Jan. 6, 2019.

Gallery hours during the holidays are Wednesday, Dec. 26 through Sunday, Dec. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
