Looking to help Jewish couples prepare for the amazing new world of parenthood, the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades and Englewood Health are launching Jewish Baby U— a program that combines childbirth education with an exploration of Jewish tradition and rituals regarding pregnancy, birth and parenting.

“Expecting parents have so many new things to know about and learn, from childbirth basics to what to eat and how to stay active during pregnancy, and the goal of this program is to offer Jewish couples ideas and information on how they can incorporate their heritage with their childbirth preparations and beyond,” says Sue Gelsey, Chief Operating Officer at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. “Our hope is to provide classes that will be valuable to expectant Jewish parents and give them an opportunity to meet other expectant parents who share the same values.”

The Jewish Baby U curriculum includes child birthing classes at Englewood Health’s Family Birth Place, a tour of Englewood Health, pre-natal exercise classes with JCC instructors, pre-natal nutrition consultation from the Graf Center for Integrative Medicine at Englewood Health, lactation education, infant care, infant CPR with Englewood Health EMS specialists, introduction to Judaism with a Kaplen JCC educator, building a Jewish home, Jewish names and naming ceremonies, building a Jewish community and more. Classes will take place at both the JCC and Englewood Health’s Family Birth Place.
