Written by acclaimed playwright Terrence McNally, Mothers and Sons was nominated for the 2014 Tony Award for Best Play and for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play (Tyne Daly). Mothers and Sons is presented through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
Character breakdown:
- Katherine Gerard: (60’s +) Andre's mother; wealthy and very self-assured; bitterly carrying a tremendous loss.
- Cal Porter: (mid 40s to 50) Andre's former lover, now married to Will; a man with deep pain, but “reborn” due to his child and husband, more reserved than his husband, Will, but nonetheless passionate and personable; works in finance.
- Will Ogden: (30s) Cal's husband; an early career writer; idealistic; more hopeful than Cal and very strong-willed and outspoken.
- Bud Ogden-Porter: (6-10) a curious first grader with boundless energy and inquisitive nature (PLEASE NOTE: Bud is supposed to be 6 yrs old, but ideally we will audition older boys, up to age 10 or so, who might look smaller/younger than 10.)
Actors are asked to arrive to sign in within the first hour of the audition start time. All roles are available and casting is open; newcomers are especially welcomed! Crew and other volunteers are also needed for the event. If interested, please contact info@barntheatre.org
