KAPLEN JCC ON THE PALISADES PRESENTS IAC CINEMATEC ISRAELI FILM SERIES

IAC Cinematec Israeli Film Series

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades will present IAC Cinematec, intended as a US public introduction to Israeli films, film makers and daily life in Israel. The goal is to create an Israeli -American community of film fans, who can share in the experience and enjoy dialogues about the films.

The 4-film series will be screened with English subtitles and will take place on Sunday evenings. Each screening will be attended by a guest director, actor, or a film professional, who will discuss issues related to the film in English.

Enter the world of Ohad Naharin, renowned choreographer and artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company. Mr. Gaga captures the elusive beauty of contemporary dance and immerses the audience in the creative process behind Batsheva’s unique performances. Using intimate rehearsal footage, extensive unseen archive materials and stunning dance sequences, Gaga’s director Tomer Heymann reveals the fascinating story of an artistic genius who redefined the language of modern dance. Following the film, Heymann will lead engage the audience in a discussion, after being introduced by Eran Polishuk, director of Film and Media at the Israeli Consulate.

Gaga Dance workshop – Prior to the film, people are welcome to join a unique Gaga dance workshop led by a previous Batsheva dancer. No prior dancing experience required. Please wear comfortable clothes. 7-7:45 pm. $10 JCC members; $12 public.

Farewell Baghdad

Based on the story of Eli Amir, Farewell Baghdad depicts the story of the last days of the Baghdad Jewish community of the 1950s. At that time, Iraq was struggling to overcome its defeat in the Arab-Israel war and the world’s oldest Jewish community was grappling between its historical and cultural relationship with the Iraqi people, the growing support for the communist movement, and their solidarity with the State of Israel. Is That You?
