The concert features Benjamin Britten’s Hymn to St. Cecilia and an encore performance of Velo Tormis’ dramatic and seldom-performed Curse Upon Iron, which the Chamber Singers performed at Harmonium's March concert "Why Do the Nations Rage". The concert is rounded out with an array of works from Josquin, Peter Schickele, Marenzio, Hatfield, and more. The 20-member Chamber Singers are a select subset of the acclaimed Harmonium Choral Society, conducted by Dr. Anne Matlack, who is celebrating her 25th anniversary as music director at Grace Church.
ABOUT HARMONIUM CHORAL SOCIETY
Harmonium, one of New Jersey’s leading choral arts organizations, is known for its eclectic programming and community spirit. The 100-voice chorus - which includes a large number of music educators - sponsors commissions, premieres, and musicianship workshops, as well as an Outreach Chorus which performs in schools, nursing homes and other venues. Harmonium has performed at Carnegie Hall, for the Eastern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, the American Guild of Organists, and collaborated with the New Jersey Shakespeare Theater, the New Jersey Festival Orchestra, the New Jersey Youth Chorus and others. They have toured internationally and are planning a Baltic tour for July 2016. For more information, visit www.harmonium.org or follow us on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook!
