Farmstead Arts will present the Classical Guitar Duo of Bert Lams, founding member of the California Guitar Trio, and Italian guitarist, Fabio Mittino. Lams and Mittino will perform music from their new project: transcriptions of music by Gurdjieff/DeHartmann, arranged for two guitars.

Thomas DeHartmann was a Russian pianist who lived from 1885 until 1956. During his travels in the Russian Revolution he wrote a series of ethnic and spiritual melodies with his teacher G. I. Gurdjieff, a philosopher of Russian/Armenian descent. Together they wrote over 200 pieces. Bert and Fabio have arranged 15 of these pieces for two guitars. The pieces are performed on steel string guitar with a pick, and they are set in what’s known as “New Standard Tuning”; a tuning more closely resembling a cello than a traditional guitar.

Bert Lams is known for his acclaimed performances of the music of J.S. Bach, and his arrangements of classical music for the California Guitar Trio. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Bert Lams conducted workshops for guitar students in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Tokyo and Seattle. Nascent, his recent solo album, features new arrangements of Bach’s cello suites and violin partitas for guitar and brings a unique twist to the classical guitar world.

Fabio Mittino is an Italian guitarist, active in Milan as session musician and with his group Fluon. Fabio released his first solo CD Resonance with solo arrangements of music by Thomas de Hartmann three years ago.
