Intensive Collage

Monday–Wednesday, August 31–September 2, 12–3 p.m.

Discover the art of collage in this three-day intensive workshop. Using magazine imagery, you will learn how to layer and design unusual compositions with surprising results. This process allows you to tap into your subconscious and work more intuitively. We also explore glue and gel collages on canvas. Visit www.montclairartmuseum.org for a list of supplies.

 

Pottery

Introduction to Wheel Throwing
Sunday, August 2, 12–3 p.m.
Instructor: Steve Jaskowak

Is learning the potter's wheel on your bucket list? This one-day workshop is a basic introduction to the fundamentals of the potter's wheel. Students learn basic pottery techniques that will help them to create unique and personal pieces out of stoneware. Students select glazes and return to pick up their fired pots three weeks from the workshop date. All supplies are provided.

Raku Firing
Sunday, August 16, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

This workshop will explore the concept of post-fire reduction known as Raku. led by MAM Ceramics Studio Manager Steve Jaskowak, students will explore techniques such as traditional Raku, tinfoil sagger, horsehair embellishment, and slip resist. Students are to bring bisquefired pieces to glaze and fire during the workshop. Contact Steve at sjaskowak@montclairartmuseum.org with questions.

Introduction to Printmaking
Sunday, August 23, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

This Workshop will introduce participants to printmaking techniques, the art of transferring an image from a printing plate to paper, using MAM's Charles Brand Etching Press. Students will explore processes that produce a wide variety of results including monoprint, collagraph, drypoint, and relief printing, among others. Choosing one or more techniques, students will complete a small edition printmaking principles, as well as aspects of design, to bring freshness and depth to the participants' creative process. All levels welcome.


Photographing Your Artwork for the Web

Sunday, August 9, 12–3 p.m.

You have worked hard to hone your craft and created art that you want the world to see. Now you need high-quality photos so that you can share your talent online. Don't settle with cellphone pictures and poor lighting! Bring your artwork to our Digital Media Lab and learn to photograph it like a professional to ensure that your hard work and talent is truly captured. Students may bring paintings, sculptures, and ceramic artwork. 2D art should be no larger than 30"x40" and 3D art no larger than 30x20x20." Limit of five 2D pieces and two 3D pieces of art per student. Please bring a flash drive to store your digital photos.
