An initiative of Jersey Moves! Festival of Dance features never-before-staged pieces by newcomer artists selected through an open, online submission process. Selected choreographers are then matched up with mentors handpicked from members of NJPAC's Celebrate Dance Advisory Committee.

NJPAC's Executive Producer David Rodriguez says, "For many years, the Jersey Moves! festival has aimed to present the very best of professional dance in the Garden State side by side with some of the world's finest dance companies. Now with Jersey (New) Moves!, the festival will take a step further by discovering the next generation of dance artists in the state, and helping them launch their careers with a performing arts center debut on our stage."

Dance New Jersey's Executive Director Lisa Grimes says, "This opportunity for emerging artists to work with established choreographers in the process of creating new work and to debut it in such an amazing venue is the true reward for any young choreographer. Dance New Jersey is proud to be a part of this event."

Tonight's program features premier dances from

  • Robert Mark Burke of Elmwood Park (mentored by Randy James, Artistic Director of 10 Hairy Legs)
  • Lauren Connolly of Bayonne (mentored by Claire Porter, choreographer of Claire Porter's Portables)
  • Kyle Georgina Marsh of Jersey City (mentored by Nai-Ni Chen, Artistic Director of Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company)
  • Arielle Petruzzella of Hoboken (mentored by Carolyn Dorfman, Artistic Director of Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company).

Don't miss this opportunity to see the genesis of America's next generation of choreographic superstars.

This performance is presented in association with Dance New Jersey.
