Flamenco-Blues Guitarist Tony Rivera has signed on to perform in the 2015 St. John’s Arts Festival.  A  St. John’s liturgical guitarist/ singer, Rivera will perform traditional church music, Flamenco Guitar, as well as music by Train, Crosby Stills and Nash, Zeppelen.  Guest singers Jillian Turner, Mary Kate Buckman and Lisa Gordon will also be performing with Mr. Rivera.

“This year’s St. John's Arts Festival promises to be a weekend of artistic delights,” commented Rivera.  “I hope to bring a combination of Sacred, Flamenco and Contemporary songs to life through a combination of traditional and Flamenco guitar playing.”

A resident of Bergen County, Rivera is an accomplished Flamenco guitarist.  Studying under the tutelage of guitar legends Dennis Koster, Emilio Prados, Mario Escudero and Juan Orozco, Tony is a graduate of both the Juan Orozco School of Flamenco Guitar and the American Institute of Guitar.  Additionally, Rivera cultivated his own style of music, Flamenco Blues, combining the best of New Orleans and Chicago Blues with the bold flavor of Flamenco guitar playing. He has re-created classic rock songs and composed original pieces, infusing each with its own unique Flamenco-Blues style that stirs intense emotions in his audiences.  In addition to being a liturgical guitarist at St. John’s-Hillsdale and at Mount Virgin church in Garfield, Rivera teaches guitar, bass, and piano to students of all ages and performs throughout the tri-state area.

The St. John’s Arts Festival, in its sixth season, is the vision of present pastor Rev. John Korbelak.  Upon returning from the Petworth Festival in England, Rev. Korbelak wanted to create a venue for drawing people of the community together to celebrate the expressions of the human spirit found in all the Arts, both secular and sacred.  While currently a little smaller than the original festival, the St. John’s Arts Festival offers a wide variety of visual art and music. Included in the weekend is a Fine Art gallery of two- and three-dimensional work from local artists in the mediums of oil, watercolor, digital art, sculpture, acrylic, pencil, ink, and photography.
