New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts Encore Youth Theatre presents RENT - THE ROCK MUSICAL. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize, RENT is modern expression of the Bohemian ideal. The musical, with Book, Music and Lyrics by the late Jonathon Larson, is based extensively on Puccini's La Boheme, incorporating musical themes, plot twists, and even lyrics of the opera. However, Rent also examines modern issues, such as homosexual relationships, AIDS, and drug addiction. RENT deals with many mature themes and may not be suitable for younger audiences.

The RENT cast includes Lilly Baldassare of Glen Ridge, Kelly Baron of Milford, Maggie Biedenkapp of Maywood, Santi Butler of West Orange, Rachel Castaneda of East Hanover, Ramel Coleman, Quamir Payton, and Darius Smith of East Orange, Eric Craft of Bernardsville, Samantha LaPare of North Caldwell, Davis Lemley of Cedar Grove, Tyler Moscaritola of Nutley, Michael Nigro of Cranford, Dennis Oliveira and Rachel Spillane of Kearny, Susan Ramirez of Belleville, Angela Romano of Fairfield, Robert Stevens Jr. of Saddle Brook, Annalise Mendez of Old Bridge, Audrey Russelman of Wanaque, and Noa Avital of Teaneck

The show is directed and choreographed by Alex Perez, Alex is a Member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, and SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers).

The musical direction is by Terri Gorgone of Rutherford, who has been teaching music for 25 years and is presently the musical theater director/teacher at the Cicely L. Tyson School of Performing Arts.
