Playhouse 22, East Brunswick’s Community Theater troupe, presents Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley. The drama is set in a fictional church school in the Bronx in 1964. When a nun expresses concerns over the behavior of a progressive and beloved priest, explosive allegations are leveled against the priest leaving all in doubt over their faith.  (Photo: Brian Craig of Belmar as Father Flynn and Joy Salerno of East Brunswick as Sister Aloysius.)

The original play won various awards for best drama including the prestigious New York Drama Critics’ Circle Best Play in 2005. A film adaptation featured Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep was recognized with a number of Academy Award Nominations.

The show is directed by Walter H. Placzek and is part of Playhouse 22’s critically-acclaimed “On the Edge” series. The series is an opportunity for directors to present lesser-known or smaller works that might not be suited to a full-scale production. The emphasis is on the play and the acting, not costumes, props or special effects.

Some of the content is for mature audiences and parental guidance is suggested.
