SKYLINE THEATRE COMPANY HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR JONATHAN LARSON MUSICAL

AUDITION NOTICE:

Skyline Theatre Company (Artistic Director, Sam Scalamoni), a professional company based in Fair Lawn, NJ, will hold open auditions for all roles in the musical

tick, tick…BOOM!
Directed by Trey Compton, a noted regional theatre director and Off-Broadway Assistant Director

WHEN: Tuesday, August 12, at 7:00 PM. Sign-up begins a half hour prior to the audition start time, and anyone auditioning must arrive no later than 8:00 PM.
WHERE:
Fair Lawn Community Center (10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn, NJ) downstairs in the “teen room.” The Community Center is easily accessible by train from Manhattan; directions are available at www.skylinetheatrecompany.org.

The show will be presented November 7-9 and 14-16, 2014, at the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation at the Fair Lawn Community Center, where the company is in residence.  Rehearsals will begin on October 23rd, and are usually scheduled 5-10 PM daily on weekdays and 1-5 PM on weekends.

Before he wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning Rent, Jonathan Larson wrote tick, tick...BOOM! Set in 1990, the autobiographical story of a struggling composer waiting tables in New York City. Before turning 30, Jon, with assistance from the most important people in his life, considers what is most important to him.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Please prepare two contrasting 32-bar selections from contemporary musical theatre songs that show off your acting and voice in the range and style of the character(s) for which you are auditioning.
  • Bring sheet music in your key.
  • An accompanist will be provided.
  • Also please bring a headshot and resume stapled together, and be prepared to provide all potential conflicts for evening and weekend rehearsals beginning October 23rd
  • Stipends available. 
  • All ethnicities are strongly encouraged to attend.

ROLES:

Jon (Age range 28-33, Tenor): A struggling composer, Jon is struggling to find what is most important to him. Pressure to make money, settle down with his girlfriend, and become successful as a writer mount as his 30th birthday nears. He is vibrant around his friends but introverted elsewhere. He is keenly aware of his talent but not in a cocky way.  (Basic piano skills are a plus.)

Susan (Age range 25-30, Mezzo with strong belt): Jonathan’s longtime girlfriend and a teacher, Susan is strong, confident, and assertive. She is exploring the idea of moving out of New York and starting a family. She is seeking the security and comfort that her current relationship is lacking. (This actress also plays other minor characters in Jon’s life.)

Michael (Age range 28-33, Baritone): Jonathan’s best friend from childhood, Michael is warm, funny and kind. He is outgoing and brings much joy to Jonathan’s life. Michael is incredibly successful financially and uses his newly found success and wealth to try and assist Jonathan. (This actor also plays other minor characters in Jon’s life.)
