Join us to hear a Holocaust Survivor discuss life experiences before, during and after World War II.  Please bring a dairy lunch. Dessert and beverages will be served.

Real to Reel film series, Monuments Men
WHEN:
Tuesday, September 16 @ 7 PM
WHERE: 901 Route 10 East, Whippany
ADMISSION: Free , open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Co-writer and director George Clooney adapts author Robert M. Edsel's book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History to tell the incredible true story of the seven art historians and museum curators who went behind enemy lines during World War II on a mission to recover some of the world's greatest works of art plundered by the Nazis. 

After the film, Harry Ettlinger (above), the only survivor of the original handful of Monuments Men, will speak about his experiences.

Two professional development credits will be awarded to educators who attend this screening.

Join us to hear author Dan McMillan discuss his book, HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN: Explaining the Holocaust (Basic Books).  Dr. McMillan distills an enormous body of scholarship to present a comprehensive and highly readable explanation of the perfect storm of causes that brought about the Holocaust.

clip_image007Opening reception for the exhibit: From Kristallnacht to Carnegie Hall: The Art & Life of Fred Boyko
WHEN: Thursday, October 30@ 7 PM
WHERE: 901 Route 10 East, Whippany
ADMISSION: Free, open to the public.

Fred Boyko was a highly regarded portrait painter in Vienna.  After Kristallnacht, the family fled to New York.  By the time they landed there in 1939, Fred already had commissions waiting for him.  He opened an art studio in Carnegie Hall. This exciting, new exhibit will feature paintings, photographs of private portraits, architectural drawings, furniture and artifacts that belonged to his famous family. Workshop with Stanley Bergman
WHEN: Sunday, November 9, 11 AM-3 PM

ADMISSION: Free , open to the public.
Light lunch, dessert and beverages will be served.

This hands-on discussion and workshop will offer suggestions on how to preserve, present, and secure the documents and photographs that help tell your family’s story. You may have some information about your family’s Jewish heritage and can learn how to generate more. Learn to create shadowboxes, scrapbooks, and other means to display and share your family’s history.  Bring documents, photographs, and questions.
