Unlikely Heroes presents previously untold stories of Jewish resistance and individual heroism which took place throughout the Holocaust. Utilizing rare film and photos discovered in archives across Europe, the film highlights seven extraordinary individuals who, without fanfare and in very different ways, took it upon themselves to take action. These men and women exemplified the highest levels of courage and human dignity during the most desperate days of the Holocaust. (2005, 120 minutes, in English & Hebrew)

The January book selection is Ten Green Bottles: The True Story of One Family's Journey from War-torn Austria to the Ghettos of Shanghai.

For a brief period between 1938 and 1941, roughly 20,000 Jews found refuge from the Nazis in the one place not requiring visas, police certificates or proofs of financial independence: Shanghai. In this spellbinding memoir, Kaplan recounts her family's transition from living in Vienna to resettling in China under Japanese rule.
