Shakespeare's battle of the sexes concerns Petruchio's courtship of Katherina. The man from Verona does not have an easy task ahead of him. He tries many ways to tame her, however she has her own take on the romance. Come and experience this romantic comedy classic that has challenged and entertained audiences for centuries. See the would-be lovers battle it out, because as we know, love is a battlefield. “Shrew is fast, funny, naughty, surprising and physical—not a bit stodgy or distant. If we've done our job in Chatham this March, audiences will feel like they are part of the action—not viewing it from afar”, declares director, Jen Plants.
Comprised of actors from all around New Jersey, this bright and bold bunch includes Elissa Strell from Bedminster as Katherina, Derick Loafmann from Weehawken as Petruchio, Kristin Bennett from Montville as Bianca, Tom Drummer from Manville as Grumio, Robert Dumpert from Franklin Park as Gremio, Scott Tyler as Lucentio/Curtis and Drew Militano from Morristown as Vincentio, John A.C. Kennedy from Springfield as Baptista, Glen D. Post from Boonton as Tranio, Chip Prestera from Stirling as Hortensio and Matt Strool from Bridgewater as Biondello, Mary Morlino from Whippany as Widow and Brian Carroll from Union as Merchant/Pedant.
Leading the artistic team is Director Jen Plants, who is directing her first show at the Chatham Playhouse, Recent directing credits include A More Opportune Time at Drew University and Rabbit Hole at Atlantic Stage in Myrtle Beach, SC. According to Jen, “Shakespeare is best when performed in the present tense as the genius of his plays is the sense of immediacy in his stories. Characters routinely talk directly to the audience, and the "fourth wall" was not something an Elizabethan audience would have understood.” Rounding out her talented production team, the Scenic Designer is Bob Lukasik, Scenic Painting by Andrea Sickler, Costume Designer is Bev Wand, Lighting Designer is Richard Hennessy and Sound Designer is Joe DeVico. Producer, Steve Ruskin exclaims, “This is not your father's Shakespeare! It is in fact your great great great grandfather's and he knew how to have a rowdy good time!”
