New Brunswick Community Arts Council (NBCAC) in partnership with coLAB arts announces Bread for Art, an initiative to support local artists by awarding a cash grant. This is an arts event where local artists are invited to submit a written proposal and give an oral presentation for an arts project that they would like to present in New Brunswick. The proposals will be reviewed by all patrons attending the event and a winner will be awarded a cash grant.

Proposals from artists interested in applying must be submitted by Monday, June 18 to Dan Swern at NBCommunityArtsCouncil@gmail.com . Proposals should be limited to one page and include artist bio, artist statement, synopsis of the project, and how/where it fits into New Brunswick. In addition, the project must take place in New Brunswick and must occur within one year of the award.

“The focus of this program is to provide an opportunity for artists to talk about their work, their mission as artists, and the desired impact of their work to enrich our community,” said New Brunswick Community Arts Council Chair Susan Painter.

The Bread for Art attendees have the opportunity to ask questions of the artists and discuss the project. At the end of the presentations, the attendees score the artists proposals based upon a defined set of criteria. The scoring sheets are collected and the winner is announced and given the proceeds, in cash.

New Brunswick Community Arts Council exists to establish and maintain local, school, library, and neighborhood arts programs in the community of New Brunswick. Making art accessible to New Brunswick residents and facilitating the creation of art by residents is a vision embraced by members of the NBCAC.
