SHAKESPEARE’S GREAT AND WITTY ROMANTIC COMEDY “MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING” OPENS TWO RIVER THEATER’S 2011-2012 SEASON

Much Ado about Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s most delicious and accessible comedies. My students loved reading and discussing this play. And seeing it performed is even better! Bring your own teens to a performance and you’ll unleash a love for the Bard!

Two River Theater launches their season with Shakespeare’s wittiest and most delightful romantic comedy, directed by Tony Award-nominee Sam Buntrock and starring two of the country’s most acclaimed Shakespeare actors, Michael Cumpsty and Kathryn Meisle, as Benedick and Beatrice.

On the sun-drenched island of Sicily, a group of soldiers have made a triumphant return from war, flush with victory—only to find that the battle between the sexes is not so easily won.

A great and witty romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing delights audiences with the sparkling banter between resistant lovers Benedick and Beatrice. Buntrock sets their “merry war” in the early 20th century, on the veranda of a family home owned by one of Sicily’s most powerful men. In this idyllic atmosphere, filled with music and sunshine, the sudden appearance of soldiers returning from battle brings romance—and an undercurrent of danger. In this world of honor and passion, two sets of lovers—Benedick and Beatrice, and the younger couple Claudio and Hero—determine their futures.
