EVENTS @ THE WEST ORANGE LIBRARY THIS MONTH!

black-lemonMeet the Artist: Carol Black-Lemon
WHEN: Wednesday, April 6, at 7 PM
The work of local artist Carol Black-Lemon is on display in the Library this month. Her exhibit "Look Up: Message in the Sky" contains a series of vibrantly-colored abstract paintings. Black-Lemon, a multi-talented fine art painter, is also a website and graphic designer.

Meet the artist at the Library on April 6 from 7-8:30 PM during a free public reception. You'll learn about Black-Lemon's creative process and hear about what inspires her to create her fabulous paintings. Light refreshments will be served. Look Up: Message in the Sky will be on display in the Library through April 30. The exhibit and reception are brought to you through a partnership between the WO Library and the WO Arts Council.

CELEBRATE NATIONAL POETRY MONTH: Poetry Reading & Open Mic 
WHEN: Thursday, April 7, at 7 PM
Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Library with some of our own local West Orange poets. Discover the talented poets who live right here in town. Featured poets include Peggy Vassallo, Frank Niccoletti, Marilyn Mohr, Mary Ann Seibert and Karen Hubbard.  Bring your own poem for an open reading to follow. Bi-lingual readers are welcome. Eagle Rock Reservation in Vintage Postcards  
WHEN: Thursday, April 14, at 7 PM
Local historian Joseph Fagan returns to the Library to present the history of Eagle Rock in vintage photos and postcards. Learn all about the Reservation—from its humble beginnings as the inspiration for Llewellyn Park to the more recent construction of the 911 Memorial. Sign up for this free program online.

Grandpals Drop-In Storytimes
Kids! The Grandpals are back!  Drop in to the Children's Room on Saturday, April 9, 16 and 23 at 11 AM and our senior volunteers will read to you. Appropriate for all ages. Sign-ups are not required—just drop in!

Pajama Storytime
Wednesday, April 20, at 6 PM
Put on your jammies and come to the Library for a storytime. Suitable for infants to age 3 1/2.  Advance registration is required. Sign up online.  

Cook-a-Book Family Storytime
Wednesday, April 20, at 7 PM
Enjoy a 30-minute storytime and make a tasty treat at the Library. Appropriate for all ages; the whole family is welcome. Advance registration is required. Sign up online.  

Book Discussion Groups for Children

The Speaking of Stories Book Discussion Group is for children in grades 4-5. The group will discuss Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli on Tuesday April 12, 4:30 - 5:15 PM. This humorous tall tale was awarded the Newbery Medal. Advance registration is required. Sign up online

The Yakety-Yak Book Discussion Group is for children in grades 2-3. The group will discuss Who Was William Shakespeare? by Celeste Davidson Mannis on Tuesday, April 19, at 4:30-5:15 PM.  Participants will learn all about Shakespeare's interesting life. Advance registration is required. Sign up online .

Spring Storytimes for Children

Storytimes feature books, songs, puppets and rhymes to help develop children's language and listening skills in a fun atmosphere. "Babies and Books" is for children under age 2, "Terrific Toddlers" is for ages 2 to 3 1/2, and "Preschool Page Turners" is for ages 3 1/2 to 5. "Eager Readers" for ages 5 - 9 includes games and crafts along with more complex stories. Registration is required. Sign up online for the sessions you'd like to attend.
